When a producer opens a client in the platform, they need to see the client's current policies and coverage details from AMS360 automatically rather than re-entering them.

    Register the OAuth client via the Vertafore developer portal

    BlueStar's IT administrator navigates to the Vertafore developer portal, creates an OAuth application for Askel, and notes the client ID and client secret. They then link this OAuth application to BlueStar's AMS360 organization in the AMS360 API settings.

    Enter credentials in Askel

    BlueStar's admin enters the AMS360 API endpoint URL, client ID, and client secret into the Askel setup screen inside your quoting platform. Askel exchanges the credentials for an access token via Vertafore's OAuth endpoint and confirms connectivity by fetching the client list.

    Schema discovery

    Askel reads the AMS360 API objects the OAuth client can access and identifies the Client, Policy, Line of Coverage, and Activity objects along with any custom fields BlueStar has configured. Your CS team sees a mapping draft within minutes.

    Map and validate

    BlueStar uses an AMS360 user-defined field to track a client's preferred carrier tier. A CS rep maps this to the quoting platform's carrier-preference filter and runs a dry-run against 200 client records to confirm policy details and coverage data load correctly.

    Go live

    Producers open a client in the quoting platform and see their current AMS360 policies and coverage details pre-populated. Quote submissions automatically carry the client ID so completed quotes link back to the correct AMS360 client record.

Askel exchanges these for an access token via Vertafore's OAuth identity provider and refreshes it automatically before expiry.

FAQ for Vertafore AMS360

Does every AMS360 customer have access to the Vertafore API?+
API access requires an active AMS360 subscription that includes the API feature. Most current AMS360 plans include it, but customers on older or legacy pricing plans may need to request API access from their Vertafore account manager. Askel's connection test will return a clear error if the API is not enabled on the customer's subscription.
Is the Vertafore developer portal separate from the AMS360 application?+
Yes. The Vertafore developer portal is a separate web application at developer.vertafore.com. The OAuth client is registered there, and the client is then linked to the AMS360 organization inside the AMS360 API settings. Both steps must be completed before Askel can connect.
What OAuth scopes does the AMS360 client need?+
Askel needs read access to the Client, Policy, Activity, and Claims scopes at minimum. If your product writes activities or updates client records, write access to those scopes is also required. The scope list is configured when the OAuth client is created in the Vertafore developer portal.
How are AMS360 custom (user-defined) fields handled?+
AMS360 user-defined fields appear alongside standard fields in the Askel mapping interface. They are flagged as custom so your CS team knows to confirm the correct mapping with the agency's staff before going live.
